Text for blog entry
For this blog part of my blog, I will explain the concept of individual learning styles and identify which learning style affects me.
After taking Kolbs test that would determine what type of learner that I am, I scored higher results in Active and reflector related questions than compared to the pragmatist and Theories questions. After reading the results of test and analysing it; I have realized that I am a person that learns better from watching and observing specific tasks in front of me, after viewing my numbered results for this test I then had to take away the results for Theories away from Active; and Pragmatist away from Reflective. This left me with a high line when plotted on the sheet from A to B.
After viewing the results of this on the graph I then consulted the results chart for each field. The chart explained to me that I am enthusiastic and imaginative; they also show that I learn better when I am in a group of people sharing ideas compared to learning alone. I agree with this as countless times I have spent alone attempting to work out information without any of this enthusiasm that this test suggests is making me learn. I had previously realised that when I am in an environment where people are learning around me I seem to work better, an example of this is at this specific moment in time I am writing this blog within the library at a faster pace than I would if I was at home. After viewing this result it is evident that I will not always have access to a public facility to do my work, so I will have to find ways in which I will be able to do my work in a home environment.
A way of doing this may be to come into university more and sit in other classes that allow me to still have access to the computers, even though I am not learning the same ideas of work, I will be able to pick up on the tone and body language of the people in the room around me; I feel that will help me to get in the correct mindset to do work.
I took Vaks learning style questionnaire, which also determined what characteristics I have form learning as well. After answering all questions with either a, b or c. I found that I am a visual learner; this means that I acquire information quicker when I have seen it demonstrated in front of me. This however would mean that I do not take in as much information when it is being spoken to me; in order to get over this process I will need to find video tutorials online that will show me things I have learned. With media outlets like YouTube and websites that have been made by level designer enthusiasts, I will be able to watch and take notes and take that information that I have learned and experiment with the same program and items that I have learned with until I am adept with that situation.
What I have learned from these tests is that in order for me to maximise my capabilities within taking information in, I will need to watch videos that follow up on information that I have previously been given from lecturers in classes. I will also start working within crowded environments like libraries in order to keep in the mind state that I can do my work without any distractions near me. I will follow these tasks in the quest to find a technique that will help me learn better within specific environments.
