Reflection of group work
The aim of our group work was to select a video game which my group which consists of me, James, Luke, Sayed, Sam and Lewis were to analyse the ways in which a gamer adjusts to the learning curve. We would then schedule a day of testing the selected game which was Gears of war on the Xbox 360; we used the student union bar within the university as this would be a suitable to find gamers of different skills, in a sociable place it is more easier to find people likely to play a video game as they are in a relaxed environment.
Once we had enough players to test, we would then analyse the data that we obtained by asking each person that was tested to fill in a pre created questionnaire. Once we had gathered enough information, we would then summarise the data into charts which would make the results easier to comprehend for ourselves and others that are reading the written documentation.
Once we had achieved enough information we would then present our findings to our lecturer in a presentation format to show the method to how we obtained our information and the findings that we had discovered.
Once everybody was assigned tasks, we were to meet up in Craig’s lectures on a weekly basis to show each other what we had done. In the coming weeks when we were to meet up the process of showing work to other members was hampered by either lack of completion of work; absence or cannot get contact with other members. This resulted in the testing process being covered by 3 members of the group out of the 6 that were available to do this task.
Once this issue had happened we then decided to take each other’s phone numbers to confirm when work should be handed in as I was compiling the work into a report format, due to one group member not owning a mobile phone and only having a university email address that was rarely checked it was hard to monitor their progress. This was frustrating as when it came to practicing the presentation and arranging a time and date they did not receive that email in time for us to practice.
The presentation could have been prepared better than what was presented; there were a lot of stages where each member spoke for too long, prior to the presentation I created a series of coughs which would represent that the person speaking is speaking for too long, this represented poor communication within our group. This disappointed me as I was one of the people who did not turn up for the testing stage i wanted a chance to redeem myself and help increase the grade for my group.
The lesson that has been learned is that in order for work to be completed to a high standard, the people within in the group need constant monitoring in order for work to be handed in on time, this is a hard thing to do as in a day there are so many obstacles which need to be tackled in a personal and professional environment. So at times i had to wait until members handed in their work on time. The next group assignment i will make sure that i have a more active role within the group to ensure that work gets handed in on time and when it is needed, because if this is not done then the work will not be handed in to a standard that would be deemed plausible by the group on a whole.
